• How do I prepare for my sugaring?
    • The most important things for your sugaring are to feel clean and comfortable – and for your hair to be the right length! The StudioSmooth atmosphere and the skill of our sugarists will help with all of those. Here is what you can do ahead of time:
    • Feel clean
    • Wash and freshen up as you would before you go to the doctor. Please do not apply any lotions or other skin products to the area to be sugared. In addition to your preparations, StudioSmooth will provide you with moist towelettes which you can use as you undress. Women should not get Brazilian or Bikini sugared during the menstrual cycle; please make your appointments accordingly, and if your cycle occurs unexpectedly, please call to reschedule.
    • Feel comfortable
    • Please come to your sugaring wearing comfortable clothing that is loose-fitting and light-colored. Loose-fitting clothing is necessary because it is important to not provide any direct pressure to the skin after sugaring. It also makes it much easier for your sugarist to work around clothing which you may choose to keep on! Light-colored clothing is necessary because the dyes in dark clothing can (on rare occasion) seep into the hair follicles that are opened during hair removal. For clients getting Bikini and Brazilian sugaring, we recommend wearing plain white underwear for the next 24 hours, and not wearing pantyhose. (Thigh-highs are fine if your thighs were not sugared.) Also for your comfort, you may choose to take ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) about 30 minutes prior to arrival; while sugaring does not hurt like waxing, there is some sting!
    • The right length
    • Sugaring works best with hair that is in the early stages of growth, about 1/4 inch. You don’t have to measure – just make sure you have at least 12 days worth of hair growth.  For legs we recommend at least 14 days worth of growth.  We recommend that you get a “maintenance sugaring” within 3-4 weeks (six at the most), and we offer a discount for those who return regularly. StudioSmooth advises against shaving between sugarings, as it irritates the skin and leaves uneven stubble that is more difficult to sugar. Also, please do not trim your hair ahead of time; your sugarist has the right equipment to make sure the hair is all the right length. Even if this is your first sugaring, please leave your hair full length; StudioSmooth will be glad to trim it for you!
